This easy bread machine white bread recipe creates a soft, fluffy, golden loaf every time. It’s the perfect everyday bread for toast, sandwiches, or snacking—made with simple pantry ingredients and no kneading required.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk powder (optional)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

Instructions

  1. Add warm water to the bread pan, followed by butter or oil.
  2. Add sugar, salt, and dry milk powder (if using).
  3. Spoon in bread flour, spreading it evenly across the top.
  4. Make a small well in the center of the flour and pour in the yeast.
  5. Select the “Basic” or “White Bread” setting on your bread machine. Choose a 2 lb loaf size and medium crust (or your preference).
  6. Press start and let the machine complete the full cycle (3–4 hours depending on machine).
  7. When baking finishes, remove the pan carefully using oven mitts. Turn the loaf out onto a wire rack and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For a softer loaf, swap warm water with warm milk or add one beaten egg (reduce water by 2 tablespoons).
  • Use fresh, active yeast for best rise.
  • You can substitute up to 50% of the bread flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier variation.
  • Optional Add-Ins: herbs, shredded cheese, dried fruit, or seeds—add during the machine’s add-in cycle.
