- 6–8 firm apples (Granny Smith or Gala)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 3/4 cup water
- Red food coloring (gel or liquid)
- Candy apple sticks or skewers
Instructions
- Wash apples thoroughly with warm water to remove wax. Dry completely.
- Insert wooden sticks into the stem end of each apple.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until dissolved.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Do not stir once it starts boiling.
- Heat to 300°F (hard crack stage) using a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat, stir in red food coloring and optional flavoring.
- Tilt the pan slightly and quickly dip each apple into the syrup, coating evenly.
- Let excess drip off, then place apples on the prepared tray to cool and harden (about 30 minutes).

- Store candy apples in a cool, dry place or refrigerate individually wrapped in wax paper.
- Do not freeze candy apples — it affects the texture.
