Description

Make perfect glossy candy apples at home with this easy recipe! Sweet, crunchy, and fun for fall parties, Halloween treats, or any festive event.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 firm apples (Granny Smith or Gala)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • Red food coloring (gel or liquid)
  • Candy apple sticks or skewers

Instructions

  1. Wash apples thoroughly with warm water to remove wax. Dry completely.
  2. Insert wooden sticks into the stem end of each apple.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  4. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until dissolved.
  5. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Do not stir once it starts boiling.
  6. Heat to 300°F (hard crack stage) using a candy thermometer.
  7. Remove from heat, stir in red food coloring and optional flavoring.
  8. Tilt the pan slightly and quickly dip each apple into the syrup, coating evenly.
  9. Let excess drip off, then place apples on the prepared tray to cool and harden (about 30 minutes).

Notes

  • Store candy apples in a cool, dry place or refrigerate individually wrapped in wax paper.
  • Do not freeze candy apples — it affects the texture.
  • Add toppings like crushed nuts, sprinkles, or edible glitter while the coating is still hot for custom variations.
