Ingredients

  • 4 cube steaks
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • ¾ cup beef broth (low sodium)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 2 cups sliced mushrooms, 2 carrots (sliced), 2 potatoes (cubed)
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Season cube steaks with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Optional but recommended: Brown steaks for 2 minutes per side in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Layer sliced onions at the bottom of the crock pot.
  4. Place cube steaks on top of the onions.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, brown gravy mix, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth until smooth.
  6. Pour mixture evenly over the steaks.
  7. Add optional mushrooms, carrots, or potatoes on top.
  8. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until steak is fork-tender.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Notes

  • Searing the steak before slow cooking adds deeper flavor and helps lock in moisture.
  • You can double this recipe in a 6- to 8-quart crock pot for meal prep or larger families.
  • For a lighter version, use low-fat cream of mushroom soup and lean cube steak cuts.
  • Gravy thickens as it sits; stir before serving.
