Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (or oats for gluten-free)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp ketchup (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 tbsp oil (for searing)
Gravy Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp cold water)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 4–6 oval patties.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onion until soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
- Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and bring to a simmer.
- Stir in cornstarch slurry and let the gravy thicken.
- Return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer on low for 15–20 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or your favorite sides.
Notes
For added richness, stir in 1 tablespoon of butter to the gravy before serving. To make it low-carb, substitute breadcrumbs with crushed pork rinds or almond flour. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free oats or certified GF breadcrumbs and ensure the Worcestershire sauce is gluten-free.
