- 2 cups cooked, flaked lake trout
- 1 cup mashed potatoes (cold)
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
- Optional: Lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or aioli for garnish
Instructions
- Cook and flake the lake trout, removing any bones.
- Boil and mash potatoes, then let them cool.
- In a large bowl, combine flaked lake trout, mashed potatoes, onions, parsley, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
- Shape the mixture into round patties about 1/2 inch thick. Chill in the fridge for 20-30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Serve hot with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or aioli.
Notes
- Chilling the patties before frying helps them hold their shape.
- For a baked option, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
