Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked, flaked lake trout
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes (cold)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: Lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or aioli for garnish

Instructions

  • Cook and flake the lake trout, removing any bones.
  • Boil and mash potatoes, then let them cool.
  • In a large bowl, combine flaked lake trout, mashed potatoes, onions, parsley, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
  • Shape the mixture into round patties about 1/2 inch thick. Chill in the fridge for 20-30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Serve hot with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or aioli.

Notes

  • Chilling the patties before frying helps them hold their shape.
  • For a baked option, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
